Background of the Study
Substance abuse among youth poses a significant threat to public health and social stability, leading to increased crime rates, mental health issues, and loss of productivity. In Yola South Local Government Area (LGA) of Adamawa State, substance abuse remains a prevalent issue despite various intervention programs. Development communication plays a crucial role in reducing substance abuse by raising awareness, debunking myths, and promoting healthy behaviors. Effective communication strategies, such as mass media campaigns, peer education, and community dialogues, have been successful in addressing substance abuse in similar contexts (Nwankwo et al., 2024). This study explores how development communication can contribute to reducing substance abuse among youth in Yola South LGA.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Substance abuse among youth in Yola South LGA continues to rise, fueled by limited access to information, societal stigma, and weak intervention programs.
